Clean and Simple Serene Silhouettes

I am finally wrapping up all of the loose ends from my daughter's wedding. You can read about the wedding by going Here, Here, Here, and Here.

These are 2 of the many cards I sent, thanking those who had a part in the wedding. I used the leftover die cuts from the Wishing Well that we had at the wedding!
Both cards were made with Very Vanilla cardstock and Calypso Coral ink. One photographed lighter than the other. In other words, it is the photographer, not the card. Ha Ha.

Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Made for You (a darling, inexpensive sentiment set)
Ink: Calypso Coral, Soft Suede
Cardstock: Very Vanilla
Other: Big Shot, Apothecary Accents Framelits, Labels Framelits, Fancy Fan Emb. Folder, Word Window Punch, sponge

Have a great day!

Blooming with Kindness Birthday

Today's card is another one of the 3 cards I swapped at Providence,RI. I gave those that swapped with me a choice of which of my 3 they wanted. This particular card was the last to be chosen. I am not sure why - it was my favorite of my 3 cards!
I love Crumb Cake paired with anything, especially white. The flower is embossed in white and then I stamped the flower again on the left and again on the right of the Apothecary Accent shape.

Other details:
  • a strip of the new Naturals Composition Specialty dsp
  • Marker used on part of one of the sentiments included. "for you"
  • a small row of sewing on the right
  • New Delicate Designs Emb. Folder used on the bottom for a lacy look
  • New Lacy Brocade emb. folder (Holiday Mini) for the top half
  • Circle punch used to round the corner

Stamps: Blooming with Kindness
Ink: Versamark, Crumb Cake
Paper: Naturals Composition dsp, Neutrals Color Pack
Cardstock: Whisper White, Crumb Cake
Other: Big Shot, Lacy Brocade emb. folder (Holiday Mini), Delicate Designs emb. folder, Apothecary Accents Framelits, sponge, white embossing powder, Large Basic Pearl, Metallic Brad, Circle Punch

I took some photos of the display boards at the Providence, Rhode Island Regional event. They look a little blurry to me but I thought I would post them anyway. Hope you can enjoy!

Circles, Dots, and Medallions

Yesterday was the Stampin' Up! Regional event in Providence, Rhode Island and I went! Yay for me! There were 350 demonstrators and 100 of their guests plus Stampin' Up! staff so it was alot of very happy people in one place! Nothing like Stampin' Up! Convention but still!

I learned lots of great tips - both creative and business related and saw lots of creativity by way of swaps and samples.

I don't always swap at these events but this time I had some leftovers from cards that I have done so I assembled and swapped them. Today's card is one of those. I had used it as a make and take in a workshop and thought it would be a great swap esp. with winter in New England right around the corner! I saw this card on Pinterest and loved the layout so I adapted!
I love the Daydream Medallions stamp set and used the largest Medallion as a "frame" around my snowman. And this particular card doesn't have it, but my swap cards had some Dazzling Detail on the snowman for that extra sparkle!

Stamps: Daydream Medallions, Snow Much Fun
Ink and Markers: Black Stazon, Pool Party, Real Red, Tangerine Tango, Basic Gray, Island Indigo, Chocolate Chip
Designer Paper: Polka Dot Parade
Cardstock: Whisper White, Real Red, Pool Party
Other: Big Shot, Petals-a-Plenty emb. folder, Bitty Banners Framelits, Glimmer Brad, dimensionals, Dazzling Details, sponge, 1 3/8" circle punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, 2 1/2" circle punch,

I'll be posting more pictures from the Providence Regional this week so be sure to stop back.

Four Frames Musical Thanks

My favorite Stampin' Up! wheel is the Musical Notes Wheel - although some of the new ones in the Catalog look pretty good too! I have several on my wish list. I am not a musical person but my family is and besides that, I love the notes as a background especially on Christmas projects.

I have had this card waiting to be posted for over a month - ever since my daughter's accident. One of her good friends is VERY musical. As a matter of fact he just moved to Nashville to further his career. He was such a big help to us when we were out in Ohio so I made him this card. Again, no embellishments because it was being mailed.
Stamps: Four Frames, Kindness Matters, Musical Notes Wheel
Ink: Midnight Muse (New In Color)
Cardstock: Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Midnight Muse
Other: Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Oval Punch, Decorative Label Punch, Corner Rounder, dimensionals

Today is David's day one day off so we are going to try to take a bike ride - after he cuts the grass! And I hope to get in some stamping! Hope you have a great day too.

A Card, an Update, and My Kitty.

I made this for a dear, sweet elderly man. I thought he might appreciate the image of the old style of typewriter.

I have been reflecting on colors lately for no other reason than I am weird that way! We all have our favorites - mine being red. My daughter that just got married is the same. We joke that you could put any car in the color red and we would love it. Same with kitchen appliances. But for clothing I gravitate to black or white. She gravitates to bright earthy tones. That is one of the reasons she chose the wedding colors that she did!

My reflection on color though has more to do with stamping and cards. For example this card uses masculine colors. Make it with Pink Pirouette and you would think of baby girls. Most of my daughter's wedding cards were white or mostly white. Sympathy cards: Subdued colors. Where am I going with this? Nowhere really. As a visual person, color is very important to me and that is one of the things I love about stamping and Stampin' Up! The colors that we have available to us are so much fun to play with!!

Stamps: Established Elegance, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Basic Gray, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake
Cardstock: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Paper: Cherry Cobbler Color Pack
Other: Big Shot, Scallop Square Duo Bigz die, sponge, Word Window Punch

Update on my family: The newlyweds are back from their honeymoon and are now safely in Iowa where they will be living. I live in Massachusetts so we will be 1200 miles (22 hour drive) apart. :(    Her sisters live in Ohio so they will "only" be 600 miles (9 hour drive) apart. We already have our next visit planned!! And my eldest daughter is continuing to heal from her fractured pelvis and doing well. She is able to ride horses again which is much sooner than the doctor expected. But he gave her the go ahead so I can't worry about it. And I am happy to be back into my normal routines. So is Gideon, our cat as you can see.

I took this picture of him relaxing in my ribbon box on my craft table. He doesn't fit at all but it is where he has slept while I stamp ever since he was a baby.

He grew a little since this picture. Lol. But he still insists he can fit in my ribbon box. Who am I to argue?

Thanks for stopping!

The Final Wedding Pictures, but...

First, a card.

I don't use the Flower Garden embossing folder as much as I do the other folders. It seemed to work for this card though, adding some texture to a blank spot.
Stamps: Cherished Friendship, Curly Cute
Cardstock: Watercolor paper, Basic Black, Crumb Cake, Real Red
Ink: Black Stazon, Crumb Cake, SU markers
Other: 1 1/4" Circle Punch, corner rounder, Aquapainter, Big Shot, Tasteful Trim Bigz die, Flower Garden Embossing folder, Color spritzer tool, sponge

This is my favorite of all of the amateur photos we took.

I think I took this photo.

It was a blistering hot and humid day in Western Massachusetts. My oldest daughter suggested they get in the Park's fountain for a fun photo. I think they readily agreed just to cool off!! I wish I could have joined them it was that hot!
Thank you for indulging a proud mother with all of her wedding photos. And thank you for the many kind comments!

Wedding, Day 3

I thought I would show you some more of the crafty things we did for the wedding. That was the fun part!

The reception was in an outdoor pavilion at a gorgeous private park in our city. We are so fortunate to have it because it is free to the public. The park, not the Pavilion is free. Anyway, we rented the Pavilion which meant we were responsible for the caterer, decorations and everything but the table and chairs.

To decorate the perimeter and the entrance, we went to Ikea and bought packages of their tulle-like curtains. They are so inexpensive and way better than tulle. For the entrance we just stapled one across the wooden beam and tied it back. Then I made a banner with Calypso Coral, Very Vanilla and Basic Gray cardstock. A friend of mine has a Cricut so we used that for the letters since I didn't have anything large enough for the Big Shot.

The same friend also cut the letters for the Card Basket. It is an old Peterborough (made in New Hampshire) Basket. We just added some ribbon, lace, an antique cloth and the banner. I used Stampin' Up's new Oval Accent die for the background on the letters. Once I die cut the "ovals" I embossed them and added some Antique Brads.

You can't read the note in the frame on the table but the gist is that we didn't do Wedding Favors. Instead we used that money and made a donation to Samaritan's Purse - the Kenya Project. The money will go toward food, water and education for the Kenyans. Everyone in our family except my youngest daughter has been to Kenya, Africa and we all love the people, especially the children!

One of the things we really wanted to do was line the path to the Pavilion with luminaries. The Park gets very dark at night! I was able to get the Shepherd's Hooks on Clearance - 30 in all. A dear friend of mine purchased a huge box of the old fashioned Mason Jars with lids and handles for only $3.00 at a flea market! So we filled them with play sand and a candle. I tied some strips of lace fabric and ribbon around the rim and they looked great. In between the hanging jars we had a regular mason jar on the ground - 28 of those, also filled with sand and a candle.

Did I remember to take a picture at night when they were lit? No! And I am so bummed because it was beautiful!!

I made a small white fondant cake for the bridal couple to cut and taste. The dessert was actually an Ice Cream Sundae Bar instead of wedding cake so it was no big deal to make the cake. Bethany saw a cake topper on Pinterest that was the I Corinthians 13 verse burnt into wood and made into little banners. She loved that and asked if I could make something similar. So I used the Wood Sheets from Stampin' Up! (now retired) and my wood burner to make the ones you see. It was really easy to cut the wood sheets with Paper Snips.

Because it was an outdoor reception we were afraid it would be really hot which it was! We were also concerned that guests would leave before the Ice Cream Sundae Bar was served and we didn't want anyone to miss out on that. So I made a Menu Fan and guests seemed to love it. They could read the menu, including Ice Cream, and use it as a fan which many of them did! Again, I used Calypso Coral and Very Vanilla cardstock. I printed the menu with our computer printer to save money. The stamped image is the Jumbo Wheel, Very Vintage. The Scallop Circle at the base is Peppermint Lifesaver "sandwich" that I adhered to the stick. We were VERY thankful we didn't have to make 200 of these!!

Next to the park's Pavilion is an old boarded up well type structure. Instead of a guest book we asked the guests to take a die cut tag from the basket, write a wish, and put it into the wooden bucket. I made the banner using the same coral, vanilla and gray colored cardstock. The bucket is borrowed and is actually an old maple syrup bucket! Almost everyone wrote a wish for the bride and groom so we were very pleased!

My daughter doesn't really care for "hot house" flowers - she prefers garden flowers so I grew our flowers and it saved alot of money but wow I was really stressing all summer over the flowers because of our emergency trip to Ohio, and the dry summer we had. Plus chipmunks and groundhogs were eating them!! In the end we had plenty of flowers: Cosmos, Zinnias, Belles of Ireland, Snapdragons, and odds and ends. Two dear friends volunteered to make the arrangements for me and I gladly accepted. They did a wonderful job! Again, we used old fashioned Mason jars found at a yard sale.

The table numbers were birds cut with my Big Shot and the Bird Bigz die. I trimmed the tail though. The coral thing behind the bird is a napkin. The stick was supposed to be stuck in the flower arrangement instead of the bottle but I just let it go. I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings and it looked fine in the bottle. The bottles were also yard sale finds and were of various shapes and sizes. The short, squat glass thing is a Railroad Insulator that my now deceased father and brother collected. Bethany really wanted something to memorialize my dad (her grandfather) so we used the insulators. To create some ambiance we put a battery operated candle underneath each insulator and they looked awesome!
Oh and the "tray" is really a brown wooden frame that we painted and distressed. Then we added Calypso Coral cardstock over the glass and added some lace (from an old thrift store curtain) over that.  The centerpieces were one of our favorite parts of the reception!

And the last creative project is the Sweetheart table. Bethany and her sisters created the backdrop with crepe paper streamers. Then they strung the tissue paper poms (left from the Bridal Shower) from the beams. The table was decorated with more bottles and a banner made from a string of pearls and die cut letters.

It was alot of stuff to haul over to the Park, decorate, and then when the reception was over we had to take it all down and haul it back. But we had lots of help and it really did look nice. Now I am in the process of going through it all, organizing it and storing it away!

I am having stamping withdrawal so hopefully I can sit down and stamp today!

The Wedding, Day 2

I am picking up where I left off yesterday with pictures of my daughter's wedding. Click here for the previous post.

This photo isn't the most flattering of my daughter but it is the only one (that I took) where she is smiling and David looks like he is not about to burst into tears. :) And the lobby of the church is very very sunny so the lighting at the top of the aisle was bright.

He walked her down the aisle first. Her former youth pastor performed the first part of the service. Then David took over from there. She really wanted him to be the one to marry her and even though he really just wanted to be her dad that day, he agreed. And he was glad that he did! In case you couldn't figure it out from that story - David is a pastor.

The back of her gorgeous dress!

The bride and 5 of the 6 cousins. The 2 year old had had it by this time and wouldn't sit for pictures, not that I blame her!

Our family: My youngest, my oldest, my mom, me, Bethany, her husband Zach and David.
Zach is a former Cedarville University basketball player and is 6'6". That was a common question the day of the wedding!

Their getaway car was a 1939? Studebaker and it takes 15 minutes to start up! This one is owned by a friend of ours who collects Studebakers. Since Zach's family is in the car business he was thrilled to be able to ride in this beauty. Bethany just loved the way it looked. Lol.

Tomorrow I can show you some crafty goodness from the reception Until then.....thanks for stopping by.

The Wedding, Day 1

The wedding is over, and all of my company is gone! I thought I would share some pictures over the next few days so I hope you won't mind.

For those of you who may not know - my middle daughter got married last Saturday and since it was a Do It Yourself kind of wedding it has consumed me!

So here we go.

This first picture was taken by my youngest daughter's boyfriend. He just happened to be there when my mother was showing 5 of my brother's 6 children the inside of the sanctuary. All 6 of the children were in the wedding!

The chalkboard on the right was one of our projects. It is an old mirror painted with chalkboard paint.

I made 28 pew markers - one for each of the pews in the center aisle. They are fabric flowers made with fabric and lace. Each flower has a different center made with an old brooch or earring that I bought at yard sales.

My youngest daughter was one of the two maids of honor.

My oldest daughter was also a maid of honor. She is the one who fractured her pelvis 5 weeks ago and we weren't sure if she could even be in the wedding. Not only was she able to walk down the aisle - she walked without a limp and wore high heels! I had my emotions in check until she walked down. Then I lost it. I am just so grateful to God for sparing her life and bringing her so far along in the healing process.

We borrowed a Radio Flyer wagon and decorated it with tulle and lace and ribbon. Why?

My 3 month old nephew was in the wagon and pulled along by his 7 year old sister. His 5 year old sister and 3 1/2 year old sister followed. The 2 year old sister wouldn't walk down the aisle which was ok. It was all overwhelming for her. But you could hear the "awwww"s as the children went by and understandably so! They were all ADORABLE!!
The flower clips in their hair were also made with fabric. I had leftover fabric so why not?!

The sign carrier came next. He is the 9 year old brother of the flower girls and the baby. All 6 are my brother's children and they did a fabulous job!
I know you are probably anxious to see the bride and you will! I don't want to overload this post with pictures so I will continue tomorrow.

Until then.... thanks for stopping by.
