Happy Birthday Nico

My sweet little niece, Nico Rae, turns one today. Unfortunately she lives 400 miles away so I can't be there for the grand celebration. Instead I had to send her  birthday card. I wanted to do something a little different since you only turn 1 once! This is what I came up with - a free standing pop up card. How cool is that?! Now I did not come up with this idea on my own. I found it over at Splitcoasters.

This is what it looks like when it is popped up and standing alone.

This is what it looks like folded up. If you look closely you can see that I used the Big Shot polka dot texturizing plate on the Gable Green card stand. Otherwise I felt it would be a little boring. To make it pop up just pull on the ribbon and up slides the "card part".

This is the card part up close. I made the cupcake bottom with pretty in pink cardstock that I ran through the Crimper. I then cut it in the shape of a cupcake bottom. For the cupcake top, I punched a scalloped circle from Chocolate chip cardstock - trimmed off part of it and decorated with small (non stampin' up! pearls. The candle was stamped with the candle from On a Pedestal using markers and glitter.
Here is an upclose view of the embellishment on the front. Again, using markers, I was able to get the 2 different colors on the saying which is from the stamp set On Your Birthday. I stamped the "1" with a retired alphabet set. Glitter added the necessary bling. Gotta have lots of glitter for little girls right? And lastly a flower brad from our Flower Assortment (designer brads).

Tip: use Stampin' Up!'s Sticky Strip to hold it together. It is the best!

I really like how this card came out. It was so much fun to make and not hard at all. It could be done with all kinds of stamps and for all sorts of occasions. Try it!

All supplies (except small pearls) are Stampin' Up! Click here to order from me!

It's all about the Kiss

I love this card. Sometimes I stamp a card and mmm it is okay or mmm I really don't care for it too much but this card? It speaks to me. lol!

I thought it was time I showed a technique so this is the Kissing technique. I used the Autumn Days stamp set. Ok - side note: I am not really crazy about the pheasant - good for masculine cards tho. I really like the wheat and other random vegetation. Ok back to Kissing. Notice how the wheat and the tall rust vegetation lean to the right (which is how the stamp image leans) AND to the left? I did this by :

  • inking the image of choice - in this case the wheat
  • take out your BRAYER and roll it firmly over the inked stamp image. This would be kissing.
  • line up the bottom of the wheat (on your brayer) with the bottom of your cardstock and roll. The image will transfer from the brayer to the cardstock but as a REVERSED image. The wheat will, in other words, lean left.
  • Clean the brayer and repeat until you are satisfied with the amount of vegetation.
Now you stamp the images with the stamp. I find that the brayer leaves the image a little lighter in intensity so when I stamp the image direct to paper, I first stamp off ever so slightly. That lightens up the stamped image.

Other details include a vase that I punched from designer paper using the large oval punch. To make the top concave, punch a little off the top. Cut the bottom ever so slightly to give it a flat base. I used our Linen Thread around the vase to give it some added dimension and detail.

Also, if you look closely, there are ink splatters on the card front. I felt like the white space needed to be filled in so I pulled out my Color Spritzer Tool and Really Rust marker.  Practice on scrap first. Of course I may add a saying before I send it - what saying will depend on the occasion!

This is the Spritzer and marker. I need to use it more!

Now hopefully when you look at the card you see a vase sitting on a table with tablecloth and wallpaper on the wall. You did right? That was the look I was going for.

Card opened enough to see that I added the other photo corners to the inside. And you can tell from this view that I used dimensionals on the vase.

The entire card and its pieces were sponged with Close to Cocoa for a shabby chic look.

5th Avenue Floral

Well I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I know I did! It was my Saturday off so I was able to create! And I love what I created! This card, however, is not one of the things I created. I still wanted to post it cause it is a favorite of mine. I copied it from a card done by Stampin' Up! many months back. See Stampin' Up! sends  a monthly magazine to its demonstrators. Each magazine has ideas and articles and general information just for us. It is one of the many lovely perks we receive. Anyway this was card was in it only done with different colors - such a versatile stamp set and card. I used this particular card as a workshop demonstration last month.

I used this as a workshop demonstration because: 1. I love this stamp set
                                                                                 2. I love these colors
                                                                                 3. I love the layout/sketch
                                                                                 4. It is easy to duplicate
I already sent it to my daughter who loved it of course! She also liked the check and postage stamps I put inside it! LOL!

Easy to make - All supplies are Stampin' Up! Click here to place an order.

Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral

Storage Solultion

If you are like me you have struggled with the storage of your stamping supplies. I have tried everything for my Buttons, Brads and Bling. This is my latest, and by far the best, solution so far. I purchased these inexpensive craft keepers at a craft store. I found them in the sewing aisle as I believe they are designed to hold DMC thread for cross stitching but I found them to be perfect for my accessories!

Here are my buttons. Don't they look nice? Except for the stray chocolate chip corduroy button visiting his neighbors, the Kraft buttons.

Here is my button box closed. Not sure what would happen if I dropped it - hope I never find out! I think it would hold up ok as long as the drop wasn't a long one.

This box holds my brads and bling. Soooo easy to see what I want and very transportable and easy to reach.

I also have one for my miscellaneous accessories. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner! Now if I can just organize some of my other supplies.

One of those cards

This is one of those cards that I made, sent, but never put up on my blog. I will be posting those every so often.
I made this card for one of my daughters (youngest?) when she was having a bad time last year at college. I think. The details are fuzzy but I loved this card. It has alot of details -  stamping and cutting out, glitter, layering, punching and the ribbon on the side.

I stamped using the Friends 24/7 stamp set and colored one set of flowers on Shimmery cardstock.
I stamped the bird and another set of flowers on a separate piece of cardstock and then cut them out and layered them to the front of the card. Glitter added some sparkle to the project. The part I like the most is the ribbon. Because the card is layered on Basic Gray, I punched part of a circle into the Turquoise card front. This allowed the gray to show. I then used tied a piece of ribbon to a Jumbo Eyelet and using my crop-o-dile I added the Eyelet to the circle. Just one of those fun details that I love. The ribbon that goes across the front isn't connected to the eyelet at all.

  Oh and this is a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" card.

Hope you feel better soon

One of my favorite coworkers had - not 1, but 2 - wisdom teeth pulled last week! She is such a brave soul cause when it comes to pulling teeth, I am a real baby. She even came to work the next day albeit swollen and tired and sore, but she came nevertheless!

Knowing that she LOVES chocolate I made her this box using the Big Shot #2 Box. I filled it with Dove milk chocolates and added a little note inside the tiny envelope made with the Big Shot Bitty Box and Envelope die cut. Here is the box closed. I wanted it to open with ease so I punched a half oval with the small oval punch. You can see it where the lid fits into the box.

Here is the box opened.

After I made my box from Certainly Celery cardstock I added designer paper to dress it up. I then used my Big Shot again and made a chocolate chip tag using the tags from the Matchbox die. The saying on the front is from Oval All and the saying on the inside of the box is from one of the stamps from On Your Birthday. I was able to customize both sayings by using markers. Punched out the sayings, added some ribbon and buttons and filled with chocolate!
TIP: Again I used our Sticky Strip to hold the box together. Works great!

For the bitty envelope I just made it, added a small strip of white to the flap as a way to give it definition and added a button. That's it.

My coworkers fav color is green which is why I chose the colors I did. I love how this came out and she was thrilled to get it. So there ya have it.

Shadow Stamping

I was thinking about a technique I could show and decided on Shadow Stamping. Usually I am a pretty straightforward stamper but sometimes I like to change things up a bit. To do this technique, just stamp with classic ink. Then using, vanilla craft ink, or in this case, white craft ink, stamp again only a little "off". The key is to let it dry thoroughly before proceeding with the rest of the card. Craft ink takes a little longer to dry.

I embossed the bird image with white embossing powder. To do this, stamp the image with white craft ink, sprinkle on the white embossing powder and shake off the excess. Heat with a heat gun.

   Here is a close up.

This is another stamp set (called "Always"), that I purchased but haven't really used. I love everything about it especially the sayings. I know I will be sending this to one of my daughters - again the bird thing!! Just thought of that.

And the colors? Well I really like Basic Gray - it goes so well with other colors especially pinks, or in this case, Coral. But again - I just don't use it as much as I'd like. And I just made the sketch up myself!

Another Sample of Shadow Stamping

I just wanted to show another example of Shadow Stamping. I sent this card last year to my Great Aunt when her husband passed away. Monochromatic and simple to make.

Dear to Me

I am trying to get caught up with my posting so bear with me.
I made this card last week using last Monday's sketch from Mojo Monday . Of course now it is a week later and they have posted a new sketch! I can't win!

This is the sketch I used. The stamp set Forest Friends
came out in the Spring Occasions catalog and I immediately fell in love with it! I just love anything nature and the deer and bunny reminded me of Bambi and Thumper. Fortunately for me the set made it into the current Stampin' Up! catalog! Why am I so fortunate?? Cause this is the first time I have used it - seriously. Don't know what took me so long cause it is a really fun set.

One detail I need to point out. After I used the Old Olive Marker on the leaves of the tree, and before stamping, I added some "highlights" with an Always Artichoke marker. I did this right over the Old Olive color. The same goes for the deer. I think it keeps it from looking so flat

Cute Little Gift

Now I saw this somewhere on some blog - it is not my original idea- but I had to "wing it" so to speak to make it cause I didn't have dimensions or directions - just the idea. I thought this was so cute and it really wasn't that difficult to make. I was thinking it would be perfect for some candy tucked inside. Hmm maybe my coworker will end up with this on her desk!

To make it I cut the Thoroughly Modern designer paper with the Big Shot Top Note die. You need 2 pieces. I then cut some Rose Red cardstock a little larger for background layer. This is done by hand with scissors. Next I used the clear circle die and the large scallop circle die and made the purses closing flap.
Finally I made the base by cutting a strip of cardstock 1 3/4"x 11" which I scored 1/2 " on each of the long sides. I then scored it at 3 1/2" and 7 1/2". The handle is just a 1/2"x 7" strip of cardstock.

To assemble the purse adhere paper to cardstock. The Top Note front and back are adhered to the scored
base. Attach the flap and handles. I used our large Vanilla brads to attach the handle. The butterfly was punched and a layer was cut out a little larger. Again I used a large Vanilla brad to dress it up.

TIP: I found that using our Sticky Strip is the best way to make projects like this. It sticks really well! And it is so much easier to work with than regular adhesive.

I am very blessed to have a great mother. She is always going out of her way for my brother and me. I needed a thank you card for her this week so I used this sketch  over at Stampin Addicts.

Anyway - I made the card according to the sketch and I just wasn't feelin the love. It was so plain! I rounded the corners thinking that might help but no I still hated didn't like it. Then I decided to add a watercolored image from the stamp set Peace Within. I felt much better about it after that! LOL.  And you know I think I really do have a thing for birds cause I didn't realize till now that I used another "bird stamp"! But my mom loves birds - good thing!

Bluebird, Bluebird

At the beginning of the summer I wanted to use the bird from Stampin' Up!'s stamp set Friends 24/7 and make it into a bluebird. I stamped the image and water-colored it but never got around to making a card. I found it the other day and decided to go ahead and make my card even though I needed to use Pacific Point (retired). I really like the combination of Pacific Point and Apricot Appeal - just like a bluebird! Ha!

Wow - lots of details on this card! I used the Big Shot Top Note die for the 1st layer. The 2nd layer is Apricot Appeal designer paper (retired) mounted on Chocolate Chip. I used the ticket corner punch for both layers.  The flower from Friends 24/7 is stamped and stamped again on this layer. I stamped and colored the bird on watercolor paper - cut it out and adhered. Ribbon with the saying was added as well. Finally made the flower with my Big Shot Birds and Blooms sizzlits. I sponged the edges and added a Build-a-Brad to the center. Whew!!

After all that work I sent it to a special customer as a thanks for placing an order!

Happy Birthday to My Brother

Today is my little brother's birthday - he's not so little tho - 6' 3"ish!! He and I love dogs so I had alot of fun creating this card. I love everything about it - the colors, the layout and the stamp sets.

Sorry but I used another retired designer paper. This is from the Spring 09 catalog and uses the colors Baja Breeze (oh how I miss that color. lol), Kraft and Chocolate Chip.  And my favorite part about this paper is that it is textured. Yum.

Ok - for details. There aren't many. I popped up the pawprint with dimensionals and for the dog's collar I cut a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock to fit and adhered it. Oh - and I used the circle scissors plus for the circles.

For the inside I added an extra strip of paper at the bottom and stamped the saying on another piece of cardstock, cut out part of it and adhered. Easy.

Home Tweet Home

Two of my daughters are renting a house, along with a friend, and I thought it would be fun to send them a gift card to use on their new house. They found out that renting a house is alot more expensive than renting an apartment! But they are really enjoying the independence it offers.

I thought of a birdhouse and the saying "Home Tweet Home" because I have a code for my girls involving sparrows. Maybe someday I will blog the story.   I really love Stampin' Up!'s Level 2 hostess set Wings of Friendship. I think the bird is adorable and I love the flourishes so I used that on my card. Of course I had to cut the card in the shape of a birdhouse!
I love how this came out! After I made my card I layered it with designer paper. I then added a punched circle and stamped over that. I also stamped the bird on a white piece of cardstock and cut that out. The same thing was done with the flowers. You can't really tell in the photo but I then layered the bird and flowers onto the card using dimensionals. And a flower designer brad completed the card.
But lets look at the inside!  The inside is a plain piece of white cardstock on the left to write my message and on the right I made a pocket for the gift card.  All I did was seal a gift card envelope and cut it in half. I punched half an oval at the top and added my images. The heart is from the stamp set Framed with Love. I had to hand write (not very well I might add!) the sentiment.

And another one

I found out this week that a coworker (and scrapbooker extraordinare) lost her brother to cancer. I know how hard that is having lost my older brother to a sudden heart attack at the young age of 41.
I wanted to let her know I understand and care so I made her this card.
I used this sketch from Splitcoast Stampers.

I had to really wiggle to get the saying to fit. But I like the way it came out.
To balance the bottom portion I stamped the flower image on another piece of cardstock and then cut it out and using mini glue dots, I adhered it to my card front.
And once again I used the stamp set "Thoughts and Prayers". Love this set!

A Super Fun Card!

My daughter has been having "guy trouble" so when I saw this idea on this blog  I knew immediately how I wanted to make one of these! Unfortunately I had to use a retired stamp set to make it. And I had to type the saying(s) on the computer. But - I used Stampin' Up! fonts! Ha! So this is the front of the card. Not sure you a can see it but the dragonfly is covered sprinkled with glitter.

This is the card when it begins to open. You can see the image just start to peek out from the opening.

And this is the card when it is fully opened! I love it! Again - I used alot some glitter on the frog's crown.
I stamped the frog prince with Stazon ink on watercolor paper and colored it using the faux copic marker method.
I can't wait to hear how my daughter likes it. Of course I had to insert a disclaimer: I am not saying that previous boyfriends are frogs. Nor do I suggest she go around kissing alot of guys just in case one is her prince!

All Supplies are Stampin' Up!

Another Sympathy Card

for another friend-this time a mutual friend and a very dear one at that. He lost his brother to cancer and I know it is a tough time for the family. Naturally.

I used the same (retired) paper but made it with Basic Gray cardstock instead. I love this stamp set and just wish it wasn't double mounted! Stampin' Up! has received so many complaints about double mounted sets that they have agreed not to make any more. HOWEVER, the ones they have made already (i.e. Thoughts and Prayers), will still be double mounted.

To make the card I used this sketch and have to admit it was a difficult one. The large circle was easy but the 2 small rectangles - well what do you do with two of them?

So I added some ribbon and a bow at the top along with a jumbo grommets. For the bottom rectangle I decided to cut up the saying "friend to friend". The bling is small grommets with a clear rhinestone brad in the center. And finally I paper pierced around the circle and rectangle as well as the photo corner. Alot of detail on this card.

The stamped image was tricky - I stamped the tree in Basic Gray. I then took a dampened q-tip and wiped the ink off some of the leaves. I then took my Cameo Coral marker and colored those in. Finally I stamped the tree in Baja Breeze and cut out some of the leaves which were then layered on my final image. Told you it was a lot of detail! Ha!

Here is the inside of the card.

Sympathy card for a friend

My hubby needed a Sympathy card for his dear friend. The friend called the other day to say that both of his parents were killed in an automobile accident. Instantly. Gone. So I came up with this one. As I have said before - sympathy cards are my absolute least favorite cards to make. No fun whatsoever.

To make this card I pulled out some retired paper and cardstock. You can't really tell from the picture but it is made with a basic white card.

All Supplies are Stampin' Up!

Purple and Ronald McDonald House

GRRRR. This is blurry again! Sorry!

This card was a thank you to a terrific hostess! I used this sketch from Mojo Monday

I really wanted to use the new stamp set from Stampin' Up! called Very Thankful. This is their charity stamp. In other words some of the proceeds from this set go toward their selected charity which happens to be Ronald McDonald House. I always purchase their charity set whether I really love it (the set) or not.
This year I really love it! Four different styles of a thank you stamp - my kind of stamps!!

I am not really a purple fan - but boy is that a popular color this year - esp. in the clothing line. So I pulled out my Cottage Wall designer paper and created this card with markers. If you don't have markers, think about getting some. They are a fabulous way to add different colors to a solid image stamp. And our markers are refillable!!!

To make the card I used markers on the image to add the variation of color. Otherwise wouldn't it be boring? I put some of our clear rhinestone brads in the buttons and added them to the front. Buttons are also Very Popular right now. I think the brads added a special elegant touch! And to make the slit for the ribbon I used our slit punch. The ribbon, by the way, is the new Rich Razzleberry polka dotted ribbon - but - I turned it over and used the plain side. 2 ribbons in 1!!!
